MOSCOW, July 29. /TASS/. Western countries saved Nazism, which the Soviet people fought against; now Russia is finishing what the USSR started, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with TASS Director General Andrey Kondrashov.

"We must rely only on ourselves, as our president [Vladimir Putin] has repeatedly emphasized. There are serious consequences to what is happening now. But I want to say once again: we are completing the work of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who destroyed Nazism. However, our former allies saved Nazism," the top diplomat noted.

"We know the fate of the Wehrmacht generals who found a home and shelter in the West. Now, Nazism is openly resurging - something that no one could have ever imagined. No one is even trying to hide it. Therefore, if we want to preserve our Russian civilization, we have no other option," Lavrov emphasized.
