First private semi-submersible vessel assigned to Hainan's Yangpu Port

Cargo capacity of the vessel exceeds 62 thousand tons

HAIKOU /China/, February 26. /TASS/. The first private self-propelled semi-submersible vessel has been assigned to the Port of Yangpu in China's southern province of Hainan, the Hainan Daily newspaper reported.

The vessel named Smiling Angel has a total length of 239.6 meters, its width reaches 48 meters, and tonnage exceeds 48 thousand tons. Its tonnage is more than 62 thousand tons. Thus, Yangpu Port has added one more type of vessels among those assigned to it.

Semi-submersible vessels specialize in transporting large offshore oil rigs, other heavy vessels, submarines, cranes, bridge components and other objects that are heavy and long.

Hainan authorities are attaching great importance to building infrastructure at Yangpu Port to increase both domestic and overseas cargo traffic that goes through it, which is an important part of the province's free trade port project. By 2035, it is expected to become a key distribution point for the flow of goods from various regions of China to Southeast Asia and Oceania, Europe and North America.

Yangpu Port will play an important role in implementing the plan to form a new integrated sea and land corridor, a project of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China aimed at accelerating and improving the efficiency of regional and global trade and economic projects and providing advanced customs and logistics services.
