HAIKOU /China/, September 15. /TASS/. The authorities of Haikou city, the administrative center of China's southern Hainan province, will step up their efforts aimed at comprehensive transformation at state-owned enterprises, the press office of the Publicity Department of CPC Hainan Provincial Committee reported.
The main goal of the measures is to ensure Hainan Free Trade Port becomes a modern international place by effectively using state-owned assets and strengthening the role of state-owned enterprises, enhancing their competitiveness. The city administration held a kick-off meeting to properly prioritize and clearly coordinate efforts at all levels.
Luo Zengbin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Haikou Municipal Party Committee, said at the meeting that deepening reforms at state-owned enterprises is in line with the key requirements of the new intensive development model, which will improve people's welfare. In addition to optimizing the sectoral structure, the authorities plan to strengthen the industrial potential of the public sector, focus on its role in building an advanced transport communication system, modernizing agriculture, tourism and cultural spheres.
To achieve the strategic objectives, Haikou will mobilize financial and technological resources and will attract professional specialists for the implementation of promising projects. The list of mandatory conditions in the process of socio-economic development includes protection of the rights of companies registered in the city, countering challenges and early identification of hidden risks.
Haikou has more than 900 years of history. It is the main cultural and economic center of the province, actively developing cooperation with other countries. With a population of 2.9 million, the city accounts for about one-third of Hainan's gross regional product. In accordance with the Chinese government's plan, a large cluster of headquarters and representative offices of a number of multinational companies is being formed here.
