Transneft to boost pipeline capacity to Novorossiysk

The first part of the project was completed in December 2022

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Transneft will gradually expand the capacity of the Kuibyshev - Tikhoretsk oil pipeline with an aim of pumping up to 52 mln metric tons annually to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, the company said in its corporate magazine.

The first stage of boosting the throughput of the main oil pipeline on the Samara - Zenzevatka segment up to 40 mln metric tons per year ended in December 2022. The oil pipeline was revamped in the Samara, Saratov and Volgograd Regions.

"First Vice President of the company Maxim Grishanin announced the start of a new project to further increase the throughput capacity towards Novorossiysk. It is planned to implement a phased increase of throughput capacity of the Kuibyshev - Tikhoretsk oil pipeline to 52 mln metric tons. Such a decision was made by the national government and Transneft. The company faces the task of supporting the reliability of the hydrocarbon transport system and ensuring the opportunity of supplying oil and petroleum products, depending on the global market situation. The second phase of expansion starts this year," the magazine reads.

"Considering the restrictions Russian companies are facing on external markets, it is critically important to create routes to diversify oil export flows. The second project phase, which is already underway, anticipates an increase in throughput capacity of the main oil pipeline routed from Samara to Novorossiysk by 15 mln metric tons of oil to deliver sour crude to refineries in Southern Russia and for exports via the port of Novorossiysk," the top manager said, cited by the magazine.
