Medvedev says enemies of Russia will go all the way to ruin its economy

It was also added that recently, seven Arctic states decided to resume the work of the Arctic Council, but without Russia

MOSCOW, June 14. /TASS/. Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday said unfriendly countries will continue to take steps to ruin Russia’s economy.

"Everyone understands that in their fervor to destroy the Russian economy, our enemies will go all the way," he said on Telegram. "They will impose new sanctions on us again and again, expel Russia from various organizations using contrived excuses."

He said that recently, seven Arctic states decided to resume the work of the Arctic Council, but without Russia.

"Apparently, they all of a sudden forgot that Russia controls the longest Arctic area that’s home to more than half of the indigenous population of the Arctic and most of the economic activity of the high latitudes," he said.

"You can arrange as many get-togethers as you like and try to solve something without Russia. But if such decisions are made without taking into account the interests of the largest Arctic power, they make no sense," he said.

The official said that Russia "is absolutely not bound by these decisions." Joint effective work to ensure environmental protection and the development of the polar regions will actually be frozen, although the Arctic Council was created precisely for these purposes, Medvedev said.

"Nevertheless, these are their problems, not Russia's," he said.
