Air balloon capable of increasing FPV drones’ range to 40 km to be tested in combat zone

The plan is to use the balloon to distribute a signal from a repeater so that drone operators can see farther and the vehicles can fly farther, the product’s engineer said

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Russian specialists will test in the special operation zone an air balloon carrying a communication system for unmanned aerial vehicles capable of increasing the range of FPV-drones up to 40 km, the product’s engineer who introduced himself to TASS by his call sign Cat Behemoth said.

"The balloon is made of low-pressure polyethylene and equipped with a video camera. Tests are scheduled for the next two months and will take place in a rear area of the special operation in cooperation with the Archangel drone operators' school. The balloon is planned to be used to distribute a signal from a repeater so that drone operators can see farther and the vehicles can fly farther. Theoretically, the balloon is capable of increasing the range of drone operation up to 70 kilometers, but practically the distance should be up to 40 kilometers, since our servicemen have no need to fly further," the engineer said.

In the future the balloon will operate from a rear area of the special military operation.

"The balloon is planned to be used from a rear area of the special operation: it will distribute the signal beyond the zero line. The balloon’s material is invisible to radars. The spherical shape is another feature that makes the balloon hard to detect," the specialist said.
