MOSCOW, October 18. /TASS/. Russia uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of domestic manufacture. The question about purchases of Iranian drones should be addressed to the Defense Ministry, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media on Tuesday.
In August, The Washington Post published an article alleging that Iran was supplying drones to Russia. Subsequently, similar statements were made by US administration officials. Peskov then dismissed such claims as fake news.
"No, we do not have such information. The hardware that is used is Russian. You know that. It has Russian names. You can address all other questions to the Defense Ministry. No, we do not have such information," Peskov said when asked whether Russia had purchased or was using Iranian UAVs.
At the end of September, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Tehran did not support any of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine and was against the supply of foreign weapons to both Kiev and Moscow.
Also, the commander of the Iranian Air Force, Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi, said that Iran had achieved 100-percent self-sufficiency in supplying its armed forces with combat UAVs.
