LONDON, March 19. /TASS/. London welcomes the results of the recent phone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, Sky News quoted a UK government spokesperson as saying.

Downing Street has welcomed "the progress President Trump has made towards a ceasefire" following his call with the Russian leader.

At the same time, the UK government also insisted negotiations must lead to a "just and lasting peace for Ukraine" and pledged to "stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes."

During a phone talk on March 18, the presidents of Russia and the United States discussed the situation in Ukraine and a number of international issues. They agreed that an improved bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia has huge upsides.
