DUBAI, February 12. /TASS/. The newly formed Syrian government will take office on March 1, according to Foreign Minister in the transitional administration Asad Hassan al-Shaibani.
"The administration that will assume responsibility on March 1 will be a representative of the Syrian populace, embracing their diversity," al-Shaibani explained at the World Government Summit in Dubai. "Naturally, there are concerns about this <...>, but the diversity within the Syrian population remains the cornerstone of their strength."
Addressing concerns regarding the new Syrian government’s inclusivity, al-Shaibani emphasized that the authorities are fully aware of the issue. "Syrians are participating in discussions within their homeland for the first time, concentrating on politics and the nation's future. All the reforms and alterations related to the political framework were created and ratified through consultations with Syrians living abroad and local civil society representatives."
In November 2024, opposition groups initiated attacks against the Syrian military in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. On December 7, they seized Aleppo, Hama, Deraa, and Homs. On December 8, they pushed into Damascus, leading to President Bashar al-Assad’s resignation and his escape from the country.
The current leader of Syria is Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (banned in Russia) chief Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known by the alias Abu Mohammed al-Julani.
On Wednesday, Syria TV cited sources saying that the new Syrian administration had established a committee tasked with preparing a national dialogue conference. The committee consists of seven members, including two women. Originally planned for mid-January, the conference was postponed by the new authorities.
