Emergency power outages begin in Odessa — authorities

Ukrenergo announced on Monday that only scheduled blackouts would take place across the country

KIEV, November 22. /TASS/. Emergency power outages have begun in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa, the city’s administration announced on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, we have to start emergency power outages again by order from Ukrenergo national utility. Schedules of stabilization disconnections are not in effect yet," the statement reads.

The emergency power cuts "will not be massive because the energy company Ukrenergo has had to balance the energy system by only 10% above the capacity stipulated by the schedule," it said.

Ukrenergo announced on Monday that only scheduled blackouts would take place across the country.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said earlier that almost 50% of the country’s power grid had been crippled.
