Moscow hails results of League of Arab States summit — Lavrov

Moscow and Amman reaffirmed their adherence to the universally recognized international legal basis for a Middle East settlement

AMMAN, November 3. /TASS/. Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Abdullah al-Safadi has informed Russia about the results of the League of Arab States summit in Algeria and Moscow welcomes the decisions made there, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference following talks with his Jordanian counterpart on Wednesday.

"We were briefed on the Arab League’s summit, which ended in Algeria yesterday. Our Jordanian friends informed us about the decisions of this forum, which we welcomed. By and large our positions coincide or are very close with respect to all issues that were raised in the declaration of the Arab League’s summit," Lavrov said.

Moscow and Amman reaffirmed their adherence to the universally recognized international legal basis for a Middle East settlement.

"In the first place, this concerns UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, as well as the Arab Peace Initiative," Lavrov said.

He noted the role of King Abdullah II in ensuring the rights of representatives of all faiths in Jerusalem.
