Alexey Navalny asks for immediate release, citing ECHR ruling on Yves Rocher case

The European Court of Human Rights found no offence in his actions, the blogger stressed

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Blogger Alexey Navalny claimed that he should not serve his prison time over the Yves Rocher case, because the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) found no offence in his actions and asked to release him from the court room Tuesday.

"I do not recognize this appeal [of the Federal Penitentiary Service - TASS], it does not comply with the law. I demand immediate release," he said.

Citing the ECHR’s ruling, he claimed that he is being "tried over a case, in which I was effectively exonerated. I would like to remind you that I have gone through all [judicial] instances in Russia and turned to the ECHR, and the Strasbourg court found no offence in my actions. Russia acknowledged it indirectly by paying me a compensation," Navalny said.

The defendant then turned to criticize the Russian authorities in harsh expressions, causing the judge to reprimand him and ask him to speak on the substance of the case.
