Over 230 people detained near court where Navalny’s case is being considered

The roads to the court hall have been cordoned off, TASS reports from the scene

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Over 230 people have been detained in the area of the Moscow City Court, where a session on Alexey Navalny’s case is being held, Ivan Melnikov, executive secretary of Moscow’s Public Monitoring Commission, told TASS. The Russian Federal Penitentiary Service has asked the court to replace Navalny’s suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case with the real one, which comes up to 3.5 years behind bars.

"According to preliminary data, over 230 people have been detained near the Moscow City Court," he said.

TASS reports from the court hall that the situation near the building is overall calm. About 20 people have gathered near the court building. No one is allowed on the court grounds. The roads to the court hall have been blocked by the riot police and law enforcement units.

There are no crowds near the metro station closest to the court building either. Reporters and riot police units are seen near the station. The police check the documents of young people coming out of the metro, with the majority of them being let go immediately.
