Russia hopes Europeans’ common sense on gas payment terms — Peskov

In an interview with the Moscow.Kremlin.Putin program on the Rossiya-1 television channel, Peskov noted that the ongoing "sanction party" is paid for Europeans themselves

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russia hopes that its European partners will demonstrate common sense on the issue of using rubles in payments for Russian gas and will not ruin their economies, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

In an interview with the Moscow.Kremlin.Putin program on the Rossiya-1 television channel, Peskov noted that the ongoing "sanction party" is paid for Europeans themselves. "And as a rule, the bill comes from Washington," he said.

"So, it probably was at least illogical, or in other words, silly to insist on any aeriform political interests and wreck their own economies. Anyway, we hope for the better. We hope for common sense of our contractors who buy our gas," he said when asked whether Russia could cut off gas supplies if European partners reject new payment terms.

"Russia is threatening no one. As a matter of fact, Russia has never threatened anyone," he stressed. "But amid the hostile environment and amid hostile actions taken against us, we simply must hedge these risks.".
