Putin, Vietnam’s ruling party leader discuss expansion of relations between countries

MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong have discussed bilateral cooperation between the countries in a telephone conversation and expressed confidence that the ties will be further strengthened, the press service of the Kremlin said in a statement.

"A telephone conversation took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong at the initiative of the Vietnamese side," the press service said.

"The issue of bilateral relations was discussed in detail with an emphasis on promotion of mutually beneficial trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation and humanitarian exchanges. It was noted in particular that Russia and Vietnam act from close positions on the main issues of the international agenda," the statement reads.

Putin and Nguyen Phu Trong expressed confidence that "the Russian-Vietnamese comprehensive strategic partnership will continue strengthening," the Kremlin added.

"The conversation flew in a traditionally friendly and constructive way. It was agreed on continuing the dialogue at various levels, as well as personal contacts," according to the statement.

Moreover, "Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party offered sincere condolences due to the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall," the press service noted.

A gang of terrorists attacked the concert venue just outside of Moscow late on March 22. At least 139 people are reported so far to have been killed in the deadly attack, with 182 others being injured, according to the latest information.
