Russian ambassador to US blames current global crisis on West’s policies

According to Anatoly Antonov, he was provoked by the macroeconomic course of Western countries

WASHINGTON, November 4. /TASS/. The current crisis in the global economy was caused mostly by macroeconomic policies of Western nations, first of all the United States, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said.

In an article for the National Interest magazine, published on Thursday, the Russian diplomat wrote that Western nations continue to name Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, which "they themselves provoked," as "the main source of the multiple crises in the global economy."

"They directly link the rise in prices and deterioration of energy and food security to our country’s actions," Antonov wrote. "However, if you look at it, it is the macroeconomic course of the Western nations, and above all of the United States, that has become the root cause of most of the current problems. Washington categorically refuses to accept the transition towards a polycentric system of international relations."

"Against the background of tectonic shifts, accompanied by the degradation of institutions and the erosion of the principles of collective responsibility, the US is trying to shape the world according to its own, ‘uniquely true’ standards," he went on.

"At the same time, the US with persistence worthy of better application, ignoring diplomacy and the UN Charter, is trying to ‘punish’ those who disagree with its approaches and to intimidate everyone else. Trampling the basic and seemingly sacred postulates of free trade, competition and the inviolability of private property, they have imposed various restrictions and initiated commercial wars. They do not hesitate to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries," the Russian ambassador added.
