Russian, Ukrainian cirizens detained in Japan on suspicion of smuggling banned substances

According to the Kyodo news agency, the three men are suspected of smuggling 113 kilograms of prohibited substances to Japan from Mexico by plane

TOKYO, October 26. /TASS/. Two Russian nationals and one Ukrainian citizen have been detained in Japan’s Toyama Prefecture on suspicion of smuggling prohibited substances, a spokesman for the Russian consulate general in Niigata told TASS on Thursday.

"We received information about the detention of three Russians. One of them was later released. Two are still in custody. We were also told that a Ukrainian national staying in Japan as a refugee was detained along with them," the spokesman said.

"A consulate general employee visited the two Russians who are kept in custody. We saw that they a in good health. We will continue to provide them with all necessary support," he added.
