TOKYO, October 25. /TASS/. US authorities required Nvidia company to immediately halt supplies of chips used in development of artificial intelligence (AI) based products to China, Nikkei newspaper reports, citing a company’s statement at its disposal.
Washington "told Nvidia it must stop shipping some of its high-end artificial intelligence chips to China without licenses immediately," the newspaper noted.
According to the newspaper, manufacturers will only be able to make deliveries to China under licenses but there is no guarantee whether such requests will be reviewed in time or reviewed at all. Restrictions will cover A800 and H800 model chips and the new L40S processor.
It was reported earlier the US Department of Commerce had introduced new semiconductor export restrictions, stipulating significant reduction of chips and equipment in the AI sphere to China. These steps were made to prevent Beijing from receiving advanced US technologies to strengthen its armed forces. Introduced rules also limit supplies of a broader range of modern chips and equipment for their manufacturing to a larger number of countries, including Iran and Russia.
