NEW YORK, December 5. /TASS/. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump's potential pick for the post of the Pentagon chief, is skeptical about assistance to Ukraine, the portal Axios reported.
DeSantis largely shares US President-elect Donald Trump's vision of US foreign policy. In particular, he is just as doubtful about providing assistance to Ukraine. The governor favors a foreign policy that would focus on the Pacific region and countering China rather than on the Ukraine issue, Axios noted.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal said that DeSantis was among the contenders for the position of US Secretary of Defense, previously presented to Trump by his transition team, but the Republican chose Fox News host Pete Hegseth. Trump then began to search for Hegseth's possible replacement amid the US Senate's concerns over mounting allegations about the former Fox News host’s personal life.
DeSantis was Trump's rival in the battle for the US presidential nomination from the Republican Party. He announced his withdrawal from the race in late January and endorsed his former rival.
