WASHINGTON, April 11. /TASS/. The United States and Japan are planning to cooperate with China in areas of common interest, US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a joint statement.
"We emphasize the importance of all parties promoting open channels of communication and practical measures to reduce the risk of misunderstanding and miscalculation and to prevent conflict in the Indo-Pacific," says the document, released after their meeting in Washington. "In particular, we underscore the importance of candid communication with the PRC, including at the leader level, and express the intent to work with the PRC where possible on areas of common interest."
Besides, Washington and Tokyo urged to maintain peace and security in the Taiwan Strait.
"We emphasize that our basic positions on Taiwan remain unchanged and reiterate the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as an indispensable element of global security and prosperity. We encourage the peaceful resolution of cross-Strait issues," the two leaders said.
