Minsk flatly opposes proposed UNGA resolution on forcing Russia to pay reparations

The UN General Assembly resumed its special session on Ukraine on Monday

MINSK, November 15. /TASS/. Belarus categorically objects to a proposed resolution about a mechanism to get Russia to pay reparations, Valentin Rybakov, the Belarusian envoy to the UN, said on Monday.

The UN General Assembly resumed its special session on Ukraine on Monday. It considered a proposed resolution about a mechanism for levying reparations against Russia.

"We categorically object to the procedure for introducing the proposed draft resolution. The complete lack of inclusiveness and transparency without any consultation once again convinces us that Western states have completely abandoned the principles of multilateralism, good faith and cooperation in the UN," Rybakov said. "The proposed document will not bring us one step closer to peace, but only further polarize us. The Republic of Belarus will vote against the draft resolution."

The participants of the special session of the UN General Assembly subsequently adopted the resolution on establishing an international register of damage allegedly caused by Russia to Ukraine, as well as recognizing the need to create a mechanism for compensation for losses. The resolution was passed by a 94-14 vote, with 73 abstentions.
