Moldova to return to Transnistrian problem after settlement in Ukraine

It is wrong to suggest any solutions to the Transnistrian problem in the current situation, Moldovan parliament speaker Igor Grosu pointed out

CHISINAU, May 17. /TASS/. Moldova will return to the settlement of the Transnistrian problem after the situation in Ukraine is settled, Moldovan parliament speaker and leader of the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity Igor Grosu said on Tuesday.

"Talks in the 5+2 format [Moldova, Transnistria, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, and observers from the US and EU] have been suspended until the end of military operations in Ukraine. We cannot speak about their resumption as long as the armed conflict continues. <…> It is wrong to suggest any solutions to the Transnistrian problem in this situation. We will get back to this matter when the situation [in Ukraine] is settled," he said in an interview with Radio Moldova.

Transnistria is now in a difficult situation after Ukraine closed the section of its border with this region. For the first time since the republic declared its independence, all imports are coming to Transnistria via Moldova, which demands the observance of its laws. Thus, many of medicines Transnistria imports from CIS countries are not registered in Moldova and a blocked at its borders.

Last week, Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky called on the OSCE to give an impetus to the talks on settling the republic’s relations with Moldova and stressed the inadmissibility of attempts at capitalizing on the situation.
