Russia’s expelled diplomats from Bulgaria leave country as previously requested

On March 18, it was reported that the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry listed ten Russian diplomats as personae non gratae

SOFIA, March 21. /TASS/. Ten Russian diplomats, who were earlier declared personae non gratae by the Bulgarian authorities, have left the country, the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria told TASS on Monday.

"Our diplomats and their family members have left the territory of Bulgaria on Monday, in accordance with the previously set deadline [March 21]," a spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission said.

On March 18, Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova announced that the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry listed ten Russian diplomats as personae non gratae adding that they had 72 hours to leave the country because "of activities incompatible with their official status."

The Russian Embassy stated last week that it viewed the Bulgarian authorities’ decision to expel diplomats as "an unfriendly act," adding that it reserved the right to take retaliatory measures.
