LONDON, August 4. /TASS/. The incident with the seized tanker in the Gulf of Oman has been settled, the boarders have left the vessel, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Wednesday.
"Boarders have left the vessel. Vessel is safe. Incident complete," it said without specifying the name of the tanker.
The Sky News TV channel earlier reported citing security sources that Panama-flagged tanker Asphalt Princess had been apparently hijacked off the UAE coast.
The report said that nine armed people boarded and seized the vessel en route from the UAE city of Khor Fakkan to Oman’s port city of Sohar. According to The Times, UK special services suspect Iranian military or their allies of being behind the incident.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh has strongly rejected claims that Iranian servicemen had boarded any vessels.
