MOSCOW, June 3. /TASS/. The world situation remains complex and hardly predictable, which requires looking for modern approaches contributing to Russia’s greater security and consistent development, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his address to the Security Council’s staff and members on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
"The situation in the world remains complex and hardly predictable and there persist old and appear new challenges and risks. In these conditions, it is necessary more actively to look for and introduce approaches that meet realities of the time and contribute to strengthening security and stability of our state and its consistent and progressive development," says the address posted on the Kremlin’s website.
Today the Russian Security Council’s competent, responsible and versatile work is especially needed, Putin pointed out.
Over past years, "this most important constitutional agency has included into its focus of attention the issues of protecting Russia from internal and external threats, ensuring sovereignty and raising the country’s international prestige," the Russian leader said.
Russia’s Security Council has made a substantial contribution to improving state governance, elaborating effective social and economic and regional policy, Putin said, emphasizing the Council’s role in creating a system of strategic planning to define long-term national goals and priorities.
The Russian leader said he was confident that the Security Council’s staff and members would continue demonstrating their best professional qualities and work effectively. "I wish you good health, prosperity and success," Putin said.

Russia’s Security Council is celebrating its 30th anniversary on June 3. This institution is directly subordinate to the president of Russia: it shapes national security policy, forecasts and analyzes threats, works out proposals for the head of state and coordinates the work of other state agencies in this sphere.
As information on the Kremlin’s website suggests, the Security Council is a constitutional deliberative body under the president of Russia. The secretary of the Security Council provides for its activity and administers its staff. Nikolay Patrushev has been the secretary of Russia’s Security Council since 2008.
The president of Russia who is chairman of the Security Council holds weekly meetings with its members to discuss essential issues related to both internal and international aspects of the country’s security.
