Europe loses chance for saving Ukraine’s face — Russian diplomat

According to Zakharova, European nations have opted for severing any channels of communication with Russia

MOSCOW, May 15. /TASS/. Europe has lost the chance to implement a compromise option for saving Ukraine’s face, which was suggested by Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sunday.

"For eight years, we have been suggesting the most ideal, compromise option. It was not a mere symbolic option of saving the face of this state. It was an option for preserving a unified country, moreover, the country that would be able of overcome the crisis of growth and that would be based on democratic principles with a possibility of an alternative development in a range of areas," she said in an interview with the Voskresny Vecher (Sunday Evening) with Vladimir Solovyov program on the Rossiya-1 television channel. "This option was suggested by Russia, Russian politicians. Europe has lost this chance."

According to Zakharova, European nations have opted for severing any channels of communication with Russia. "And what has happened now, and I think they don’t understand it fully, is that they have given us a free hand," she added.
