Putin calls for preventing acceleration or too sudden slowdown of inflation

The Russian leader also urged that steps be taken to ensure sustainable growth in domestic demand

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Domestic demand trends should be in line with inflation guidelines, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with cabinet members on Wednesday.

"The dynamics of domestic demand should be in line with the Bank of Russia’s guidelines on inflation, and it is important to prevent both an acceleration and excessive slowdown [in the inflation rate]," he said. "I will not give the latest figures [on inflation], but you are quite aware of this yourselves," the president noted.

Putin also urged that steps be taken to ensure sustainable growth in domestic demand. "In the current situation, it is becoming a leading factor in economic growth, coming up front and center," he said.
