MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Moscow appreciates the participation of Chinese companies in the implementation of energy projects in Russia’s Arctic zone, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large, Russia’s Senior Official at the Arctic Council Nikolay Korchunov told a briefing on Friday.

"We appreciate the participation of Chinese companies in the implementation of energy projects in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. In particular, this involves such projects as Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG 2," he said.

Moscow will welcome Beijing’s joining other Russian Arctic projects as well, including through the Arctic Council where China is an observer, as well as its contribution to ensuring the region’s stability overall, Korchunov noted.

Energy, including carbonless energy, as well as projects on the development of the Northern Sea Route and related onshore infrastructure, may become the main areas of Sino-Russian cooperation, according to the diplomat.

The Arctic Council is an intergovernmental organization of Arctic states, containing Denmark (along with Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Iceland, Canada, Norway, Russia, the United States, Finland, and Sweden. In 2021, when the Council marked its 25th anniversary, the two-year presidency came over from Iceland to Russia.
