Media: Length of roads suitable for tourism on Hainan to reach 922 km by the end of 2021

The provincial administration announced that in the next five years, the province plans to complete the construction of a unified network of highways

HAIKOU, September 5. /TASS/. The total length of high-quality modern roads, ideal for making tourist trips by car, will amount to 922 km by the end of 2021 on Hainan, reported the Hainan Daily.

According to the newspaper, the authorities are constantly improving the infrastructure adjacent to the highways, increasing its eco-friendliness. It is expected that the expansion of the network of modern highways will create new interesting tourist routes and significantly reduce the costs of logistics companies in the transportation of goods, enhance the competitive advantages of Hainan's free trade port.

According to the local administration, the province is actively developing individual tourism: tourists can rent a car and not be limited to traditional beach holidays. For example, by car one can go to the central part of the island to admire the jungle of the subtropics, on the east coast — go surfing and explore the coconut groves, and on the west — stay in a modern hotel on the seashore to admire the stunning sunsets and starry skies of the southern latitudes.

Moreover, this year the government completed a project to build more than 80 service stations located near the ring road that runs along the entire coast of the island. There one can rest, have a car repaired and get all the information needed during the trip. Numerous hotels, supermarkets and venues for various cultural event and entertainment are located along the highway.

For centuries, inland water transport has traditionally played a key role in the development of Hainan's economy. Since the 70s of the last century, motorways have gradually replaced it. Optimizing the work of the regional road system is one of the key tasks of Hainan's socio-economic development during the fourteenth five-year plan (2021-2025).

Earlier, the provincial administration announced that in the next five years, the province plans to complete the construction of a unified network of highways, thanks to which it will be possible to quickly cross the island both from north to south or from west to east, and from northeast to southwest, from southeast to northwest. In particular, direct routes will appear from Qionghai (east coast), where Boao Forum for Asia is held annually, to the deep-water port of Yangpu (northwest), from the popular with tourists Lingshui-Li Autonomous County (southeast) to the arid western coast, from Wenchang cosmodrome (northeast) through the main agricultural regions of the province to Lingao County, which stretches along the Qiongzhou Strait, which separates the island from the mainland.
