BEIRUT, November 28. /TASS/. Units of the Jabhat al-Nusra group (outlawed in Russia) have started advancing in the north of Syria, capturing 21 settlements on the territory under the protection of the Syrian army, the Dubai-based Al Hadath television channel reported.

According to the channel, the country’s troops managed to thwart the enemy’s advances in the area of the city of Aleppo and inflict casualties on it, killing more than 60 militants.

The republic's armed forces command said in a statement that the treacherous offensive operation in the northern de-escalation zone, which is controlled by Turkey, was launched early on November 27. "The terrorists conducted a large-scale attack on a broad front, with a large number of militants participating in the operation, using medium and heavy weapons," the statement reads. "The enemy is advancing towards villages and towns under the Syrian army's protection and military facilities."

The Syrian military command specified that the militants of Jabhat al-Nusra continue targeting the positions of government forces in several areas of the front. "Our fighters are repelling the attack with various firepower and are inflicting losses on the terrorist groups in terms of manpower and equipment," the statement emphasized.
