MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Russia's most famous Christmas tree will be delivered to the Kremlin on December 13 after being cut down on December 11 in the Moscow Region, the Directorate of the Russian President told TASS.
"The Kremlin fir tree that will decorate the Cathedral Square was found in the city district of Shchyolkovo. It is 84 years old," the agency’s source said. He specified that the height of the tree is 25 meters, the branches stretch out 10 meters, and the trunk has a diameter of 60 centimeters.
The Russian President's Directorate noted that the selection process for the special Christmas tree began in the summer, as experts took several months to choose the best tree from a pool of 30 candidates. The main requirements were that the tree should be at least 25 meters high, not older than 120 years and have the right pyramidal shape, uniform and rich color of needles, no dry or broken branches. Being able to conveniently access the tree so that neighboring trees are not affected was another important factor.
