Preproduction batch of Russia’s Marafon IoT satellites to be launched in 2025

Overall, the Marafon-IoT satellite constellation designed by Reshetnev ISS will comprise 264 spacecraft

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. The preproduction batch of Marafon satellites for the internet of things (IoT) will be launched in 2025, the Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) Company said in a fact sheet.

"The launch of five prototypes of the [Marafon] satellite (preproduction batch) [is due] in 2025," the design bureau said in the document, released for the Archimedes annual international exhibition of inventions and innovation technologies.

Pavel Cherenkov, the director-general of the JSC Gonets Satellite System that controls the project’s operator Sfera, told TASS earlier that the launch of the preproduction batch is scheduled for 2024.

Overall, the Marafon-IoT satellite constellation designed by Reshetnev ISS will comprise 264 spacecraft, each weighing between 50 and 70 kg. They will be positioned in 12 orbital planes at the altitude of around 750 km and have a life span of more than five years.

The 26th Archimedes annual international exhibition of inventions and innovation technologies is held in Moscow on March 20-30, 2023.
