MFA accuses EU of illegally forcing other countries to impose sanctions on Russia

According to Maria Zakharova, if the EU makes such illegitimate, illegal actions, then it has no right, in principle, to talk about the legitimacy or illegitimacy of the actions of others

MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday said the EU is illegally coercing other countries into joining it in imposing sanctions on Russia.

"The European Union, which constantly pushes the narrative of the rule of law, not only violates these principles, but literally forces other states to follow the same path (of imposing sanctions - TASS). That is also illegitimate. Coercion to engage in illegal activities is in itself illegitimate," she said.

According to Zakharova, the EU's unilateral sanctions on Russia are illegal. "The [EU's] unilateral sanctions are illegitimate. If they make such illegitimate, illegal actions, then they have no right, in principle, to talk about the legitimacy or illegitimacy of the actions of others," the diplomat said.
