Putin introduces accession treaties to State Duma for ratification

They were signed in Moscow on September 30, 2022

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced the four treaties on accession of the four new regions to Russia to the State Duma for ratification, according to the Duma online database.

"Ratify the treaty between Russia and DPR on accession of Donetsk People’s Republic to Russia as a new region," signed in Moscow on September 30, 2022," one entry reads.

The international agreements specify the borders of the new regions, among other things. The borders of the two republics and the two regions will be determined by the borders "that existed at the day of their establishment and at the day of accession to Russia." The borders adjacent to a foreign state become the new state border of the Russian Federation.

The State Duma is scheduled to review these documents on October 3, and the Federation Council will review them on October 4. Earlier on Sunday, the package of accession documents was approved by the Russian Constitutional Court.
