Lavrov says UN officials often act as mouthpieces for fake news about Russia

The Russian foreign minister also said Russia isn’t ashamed to show itself as it is

MOSCOW, June 16. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday said international officials including UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet are subjected to pressure from the West and often act as mouthpieces for fake news.

The minister said in an interview with the BBC television channel that Ukraine hasn’t confronted Nazis and Nazism is thriving there.

The reporter responded by citing UN High Commissioner for Human Rights who had said that Russian forces allegedly held 360 people for 28 days in the Chernigov Region.

"International officials, including the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and, to my great regret, the UN Secretary General and many other UN representatives, are subjected to pressure from the West and often act as mouthpieces for fake news," Lavrov said.

The minister also said Russia isn’t ashamed to show itself as it is.

"Russia isn’t squeaky clean. It is what it is. We are not ashamed to show ourselves as we are," he said.
