Putin reaffirms Russia’s contractual commitments to supply natural gas to Austria

Russian President Putin signed a decree on March 31 stipulating a new procedure for buyers from unfriendly countries to make payments for Russian natural gas starting from April 1

MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed in a phone talk with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer Moscow’s commitment to honor its contractual obligations for suppling natural gas to Austria, the Kremlin press office reported on Friday.

"Russia’s commitment to honor its contractual obligations for natural gas supplies to Austria was reaffirmed," the press office said in a statement.

Russian President Putin signed a decree on March 31 stipulating a new procedure for buyers from unfriendly countries to make payments for Russian natural gas starting from April 1.

Under the new scheme, these states are required to transfer funds denominated in foreign currencies to Russia’s Gazprombank that will buy rubles on currency exchanges and remit them to importers’ special ruble accounts. Given this procedure, Russia will keep suppling natural gas in an amount and at prices stipulated in the contracts that were concluded.
