Ukrainians should determine their own future, are tired of external governance — Lavrov

In Sergey Lavrov’s view, Ukrainians suffer from militarization and neo-Nazis’ dominance in the country’s military and law enforcement institutions

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. While conducting its special operation, Russia proceeds from the fact that the people of Ukraine should determine their own future, as they are tired of being under foreign control due to the Kiev regime, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference on Wednesday after his talks with Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Osman Saleh Mohammed.

"Undoubtedly, the people [of Ukraine] are under such totalitarian pressure that the people’s sentiment should be put first, given full priority. When we announced the start of the special military operation, we said that we would take the position that the citizens of Ukraine would determine their own future. It is up to them, not to anybody else. I understand that Ukraine has been under external governance for many years and people are tired of this," he said when asked about the future of Ukrainian territories.

In Lavrov’s view, Ukrainians suffer from militarization and neo-Nazis’ dominance in the country’s military and law enforcement institutions. They also suffer when the government led by President Vladimir Zelensky passes the laws which "consistently exterminate the Russian language, culture and education" and which "encourage the theory and practice of Nazism.".
