DUSHANBE, June 23. /TASS/. The lack of mechanisms making it possible to ensure the transparency of biological research breeds threats in this sphere, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said at the 16th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization security councils' secretaries in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

"Maintaining biomedical security in the SCO space is a no less serious challenge. This task is very timely amid soaring threats in this field, while no mechanism of ensuring transparency and verifiability of biological research being conducted in various countries are yet in place," he stated.

Patrushev urged stepping up interaction by the SCO member-countries on this group of issues.

In recent years, he stressed, world tensions caused an unprecedented upsurge in the forced mass migration of the population.

"Against the backdrop of the pandemic and the economic slump it exacerbated one should expect growing migration processes around the world. For drafting common approaches to tackling these problems within the SCO we are calling upon our partners in the organization once again to enter into consultations on tighter cooperation by the law enforcement agencies on migration issues," Patrushev said. In his opinion, this will help maintain peace, security and stability in the SCO space.
