Kiev agrees to extradite suspect accused of murdering Forbes editor to Russia

In 2017, the Russian Prosecutor General’s office sent an appeal to Ukraine to hand over Dukuzov for prosecution

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Ukraine has decided to extradite Magomed Dukuzov accused of murdering Chief Editor of the Russian edition of Forbes, Paul Klebnikov, to Russia, Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika annual report reads.

"In spite of the recently strained relations between Russia and Ukraine, the efforts of the Russian General Prosecution led to the relevant Ukrainian authorities this year deciding to extradite 22 individuals to Russia, including Magomed Dukuzov accused of murdering US citizen Paul Klebnikov," the report specifies.

In total, in 2018 Russia sent 386 appeals to extradite persons for prosecution and execution of sentences to foreign authorities. Foreign countries extradited 195 persons to Russia, 85 of which were extradited from countries outside the former Soviet Union.

In 2017, the Russian Prosecutor General’s office sent an appeal to Ukraine to hand over Dukuzov for prosecution. The criminal case against Dukuzov is ongoing and is being supervised by the main office of the Russian Investigative Committee. Dukuzov is accused of murdering Chechnya Region administration Chief of Staff and former Deputy Government Chairman Yakov Sergunin on June 25, 2004, on a contract hit and as part of a crime gang. According to the investigation, on July 9, 2004, Dukuzov also assassinated Klebnikov.
