Hainan's Haikou foreign trade volume up 42.6% in January-July

HAIKOU /China/, September 6. /TASS/. The overall foreign trade volume of Haikou in the southern Chinese province of Hainan in reached 47.5 billion yuan ($6.6 billion) January-July 2023, up 42.6% year-on-year, the Hainan Daily newspaper reported with reference to the city's customs service.

Haikou is ranked first in the province in terms of its growth rate of foreign trade. Exports of goods for the mentioned period grew by 104.6% and amounted to 17.8 billion yuan ($2.5 billion). As for imports, they rose 20.6% year-on-year to 29.6 billion yuan ($4.1 billion).

In the January-July period, Haikou's foreign trade accounted for 35.75% of the province's total foreign trade, according to the report. Exports and imports stood at 41.12% and 33.14% respectively.

According to the paper, in the first seven months of the year the city has already met the annual target set by the authorities for the volume of foreign trade turnover. At the same time, mechanical and electrical products accounted for about 60% of Haikou's total exports. Imports related to cultural products increased significantly.

In order to further accelerate the steady growth of foreign trade volume and support the development of micro, small and medium-sized foreign trade enterprises in Haikou, the local commerce department will hold a series of training seminars. Representatives of 30 foreign trade enterprises registered in Haikou will be invited to participate.
