Russia’s grain harvest may grow by 5 mln metric tons/year owing to new regions — Ministry

It is said that plenty of arable lands are available on the new Russian territories and the Agriculture Ministry plans to develop them

MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. The grain harvest in Russia may grow by 5 mln metric tons annually thanks to its new regions, Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev told reporters on Tuesday.

"Considering the arable lands available there, I believe at least 5 mln metric tons of grain will complement the Russian ‘piggy bank.’ I also believe there will be an addition in other crops," Patrushev said.

Plenty of arable lands are available on the new Russian territories and the Agriculture Ministry plans to develop them, the Minister said. It is important to establish a normal production process there, he noted. At the same time, certain products are already supplied from the joined territories, Patrushev noted, adding that supply chains have already been established.
