Medvedev lauds Hungarian PM for refusing to support Russian energy embargo

Earlier, Viktor Orban said that Hungary and the EU at large were not prepared to approve the proposal put forward by the EC to introduce an embargo against Russian oil as part of the West’s anti-Russian sanctions

MOSCOW, May 6. /TASS/. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has praised the Hungarian prime minister for his refusal to support an embargo on Russian energy supplies, saying it was "a brave move for a mute Europe."

"Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, blacklisted by the Mirotvorets website, has made a brave move for a mute Europe. He refused to support an energy embargo that would be harmful to his economy and the crazy sanctions against religious figures (read: the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and other Orthodox bishops)," Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel on Friday.

Medvedev said, "the most sensible leaders of EU countries might have decided to stop heading quietly towards the precipice along with the sterilized European herd that is being led to the slaughter by the US shepherd."

"Let’s see what this shepherd is going to do; as well as those in the herd who are ready to sacrifice themselves for the opulent lifestyle of that shepherd, too," Medvedev added.

Orban said earlier that Hungary and the European Union at large were not prepared to approve the proposal put forward by the European Commission to introduce an embargo against Russian oil as part of the West’s anti-Russian sanctions. He said such a move against Moscow would require seriously revamping the infrastructure of alternative supplies and a complete overhaul of Hungary’s oil refineries.
