WASHINGTON, November 6. /TASS/. Tehran and Washington are continuing negotiations, US President Donald Trump said.
"We're doing very well with Iran. We're talking to Iran. We have been," the US leader told reporters at the White House, though he did not disclose the nature of these discussions. He also claimed that thanks to US actions, the Strait of Hormuz is open to shipping.
Meanwhile, according to Fox News, Washington is considering the possibility of resuming military operations against Iran on November 9. According to the broadcaster, meetings on this topic took place at the White House on November 4 and 5. Sources told Fox News that resuming hostilities on November 9 is being considered because that date coincides with a new moon, which would allegedly provide favorable conditions for the operation.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, in the early morning hours of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached on the Strait of Hormuz. Nearly 25% of the global oil trade and about 20% of the liquefied natural gas trade pass through the strait. The US administration then effectively signaled that it would cease the use of large-scale military force against Iran and shift to attempting to economically strangle the country through sanctions.
