EU confirms invitation to Zelensky to attend EU summit on February 9-10 — spokesman

"For security reasons, no further information will be provided," a spokesman for European Council President says

BRUSSELS, February 6. /TASS/. The European Council has invited Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to attend an EU summit in Brussels on February 9-10, Barend Leyts, a spokesman for European Council President Charles Michel, said on Monday.

"The European Council president has invited President Zelensky to participate in person in a future summit of the European Council. For security reasons, no further information will be provided," he said on Twitter.

The Financial Times reported earlier, citing sources, that Zelensky planned to attend in person the EU summit slated for the end of this week and deliver a speech at a special session of the European Parliament.

The European Commission has stopped to provide detailed information about planned communication with Ukrainian leaders and mutual travel plans due to security reasons. On February 2, the European Commission held a meeting in Kiev, followed by an EU-Ukraine summit on February 3. Brussels pledged more weapons supplies and financial assistance to Kiev and to provide support in the country’s post-conflict rebuilding, but it didn’t promise any certain date for the start of talks for Ukraine to join the EU, with further discussions scheduled for the fall.
