SOCHI, November 8. /TASS/. The United States is conducting the policy of dual deterrence on Russia and China, but such methods are ineffective, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Thursday’s plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club.
"Regrettably, the United States is conducting the policy of dual deterrence. In other words, it is trying to deter both China and Russia at the same time," he said.
In Putin’s opinion, Washington views China’s economic growth as a threat to its global dominance.
"But, in my opinion, this is not the tactic they need to employ if they want to be efficient," Putin continued. "One’s advantages should be proven in a fair and open competition. This tactic would have revived the United States’ own, innate resources for development."
Instead, Washington’s "harms its own development by prohibiting one thing after another."
"What will come out of the ban on Chinese goods or technologies on the US market? Only inflation and higher production costs, and nothing else," Putin said.
"I believe that if, instead of ‘dual deterrence,’ the United States had changed its policy on Russia and China to ‘triple cooperation,’ everyone would have benefited from it. It would have been a win-win situation for everyone," he added.
