MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. The National System of Payment Cards (NSPC) has set unified charges in public catering and food retail as a measure against miscoding and incorrect cashback charge, the Izvestiya newspaper said on Sunday.
"As part of miscoding prevention, the Mir payment system performed the unification of interbank charge rates in food retail and public catering segments, making possible to create equal and transparent conditions for operations of all market players," the newspaper said, citing NSPC spokespersons.
Charge accrual rules were changed since January 2023, according to Izvestiya’s sources on the payment market. While public catering sites have different MCC codes determining the interbank charge rates, rules for its charging are the same for all such points of sale. The rate will be 0.5% for receipts below 1,000 rubles ($14.5) and 1.65% for receipts above this sum. The charge for supermarkets will be increased to 1.4% but almost all food stores will be in this category, the news outlet said.
Unification applies only to Mir cards at the moment.
