Top Iranian diplomat blames US for continuation of Gaza crisis

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that consultations have been held with the governments of a number of Muslim countries, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric on the humanitarian situation in Gaza

DUBAI, April 4. /TASS/. The United States, which supports Israel, is guilty of continuing the crisis in the Gaza Strip and preventing its conclusion, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on the occasion of Jerusalem Day.

"It is clear that the US is responsible for continuing the war [in Gaza] and preventing it from ending," the minister said in a statement posted on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Telegram channel.

The top diplomat said that extensive consultations have been held with the governments of a number of Muslim countries, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric on the humanitarian situation in Gaza. During the talks, "the priority of humanitarian aid [to the enclave] and the need to stop the war were emphasized," the foreign minister said. "We saw that the UN Secretary General and the ICRC head took important steps in this direction, but because the White House and some Western governments acted hand in hand with the Israeli authorities, these humanitarian efforts have not yet achieved the desired result," the minister concluded.

Jerusalem Day is celebrated on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. In 2024, the day falls on April 5. It was established by the country’s founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini, as a sign of solidarity with Palestine.
