Despite being infected with coronavirus, Mexican president to hold phone call with Putin

There is a possibility that the country will get the Sputnik V vaccine, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said

MEXICO CITY, January 25. /TASS/. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador who has contracted the coronavirus will conduct a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday. The head of the Latin American republic posted this on his Twitter on Sunday night.

"Tomorrow, for example, I will talk over the phone with president Vladimir Putin because <...> there is a possibility that they will send us the Sputnik V vaccine," he wrote. The Mexican leader earlier reported that he was diagnosed with the coronavirus and that he is already receiving treatment.

On Sunday, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced the talks of the two leaders on Twitter. He reported that a phone conversation of the two presidents will be held on Monday at 08:00 local time (17:00 Moscow time). According to the minister, "the future of bilateral relations will be discussed as well as supplies of a Russian vaccine [against the coronavirus] to Mexico."

On January 21, Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev told the Russia-24 TV channel that the fund is expecting to register the Sputnik V vaccine in Mexico soon.

On January 19, the Mexican foreign minister reported that the country’s authorities intend to purchase 7.4 mln doses of Sputnik V during a period from January through March. So far it is unknown when the Mexican regulator will issue a permit to use the Russian preparation in the republic.
