LJUBLJANA, January 30. /TASS/. The Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency has detained two foreign nationals on suspicion of spying for Russia, the 24ur website reported on Monday, citing unofficial data from law enforcement agencies.
"The Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency uncovered two foreign nationals in Ljubljana, who were engaged in espionage for Russia. They were arrested jointly with the National Bureau of Investigation. The two suspects are facing a total of up to eight years in prison for espionage and false representation," the report said.
The 24ur report said the detainees are nationals of a Latin American country, and one of them has an Argentine passport. The Ljubljana prosecutor’s office started a pre-trial investigation of the case in December 2022 at the request of the special service, according to the news outlet. The report said the Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency believes the suspects are "Russian citizens that assumed made-up foreign identities". The case has been classified, so law enforcement agencies don’t issue official comments on the matter.
