SEOUL, January 24. /TASS/. A documentary about North Korea’s success in combating COVID-19 in 2022 has been shown on Korean Central Television, the Yonhap News Agency reported on Tuesday.
"The threat of the deleterious virus’ spread in our country was a problem but the poor public health infrastructure and inferior quarantine measures were a bigger problem. We had to live through an unprecedented crisis when the economy had serious difficulties because of the two-year crisis caused by the virus [in other world countries," the film says, describing the coronavirus epidemic in North Korea as the "biggest challenge since the foundation of the state."
According to the documentary, the country managed to cope with the coronavirus epidemic in 80 days, which was a "miracle for the entire planet" and an "unprecedented event" for the country.
The first coronavirus case was reported by the Korean Central News Agency on May 12, 2022 and on August 10, 2022, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced the end of the pandemic in the country.
